Rome is less known for modern art, but 20 years of rationalist architecture in the 1920s and 1930s and modern galleries like MAXXI and Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, along with many smaller galleries proposing contemporary art, are a cherry at the top of the cake (or “historical lasagna” that Rome came to be known as).
